Today's post is all about my 6-month experience as one of the New Voices of Beauty and brand ambassador for COVERGIRL, Olay, Pantene and Secret. Wow, 6 months really flew by! P&G and Lucky asked all four of us to do a recap post on the highlights of this journey, lessons learned, and all things in between.
Lessons Learned
I have to start out by saying that this whole experience would have never happened if I didn't take the risk of stepping outside of my comfort zone. I remember getting the initial email for the New Voices of Beauty casting that was going to take place during the Lucky FABB Conference in NYC back in October. As soon as I saw the words "video casting," I freaked out. For me, being put on the spot in front of a camera is something that I am still trying to get used to. I get so nervous (it's happened all my life) and I tend to ramble on. Writing has always been a strong point for me, so I'm used to being able to take the time and think about the thoughts and feelings that I want to express. Doing something live and on the spot is a whole different world for me. As nervous as I was, I decided to just go for it. My father would always say, "What do you have to lose?" - I take that advice with me everyday. So I did the video interview, made it as a finalist, and then after a couple rounds of voting was named one of the New Voices of Beauty... and none of that would have ever happened if I didn't just go for it! Fear of the unknown or of failing can only hold you back. This whole experience made me realize how amazing it is to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. It's all about that nervous and scared feeling you get and being able to push through that.... that's where the magic happens. You have to remind yourself that you ARE capable. Be proud of your accomplishments and never let anyone take that away from you, including yourself.
Highlights
Being able to work with COVERGIRL, Olay, Pantene and Secret has really been amazing. These are brands that I have used for years and I would have never thought an opportunity like this would ever be possible. As part of the contest, we each won a year's supply of products from all four brands, which is awesome. I've shared some of those products on my blog & Instagram and will definitely continue to post about more of them. I'm also sharing some with you guys today! (see end of post) But my favorite part about this whole experience was definitely the trips and meeting so many great people along the way.
They sent all four of us to NYC back in January to film a video campaign. It was my first time doing a video of that nature and I couldn't have asked for a better team of people to share that experience with. From brunch and shopping to filming in the cold and hanging out with the girls, it's something that I will always cherish.
Back in April, they sent the four of us to LA for Lucky FABB West. They had a special section for us at the brunch and they played our video. It gave us the opportunity to meet a ton of new people and share our experience as the NVB. They even gave us an on-the-spot interview (where I made fun of myself lol.) We got to meet Eva Chen, editor-in-chief of Lucky, and they surprised us by featuring our photo in the June/July 2014 issue of Lucky. It was a great feeling to have that recognition. Thank you Lucky!
